Himalaya taps travel agency channel

SINGAPORE, 13 July 2017: Sabre Corporation announced, Tuesday, a new global distribution partnership with Himalaya Airlines.

The partnership will support the airline’s long-term goal to connect Nepal to major cities in Asia and the Middle East.

Currently the airline’s homepage (Where we Fly) identifies daily services to Colombo, Sri Lanka and Doha, Qatar. http://www.himalaya-airlines.com/home.

However a timetable on the website features three weekly services to Dubai launched last April and a daily service to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A three weekly service from Kathmandu, to Yangon, starting 15 September, is also shown on the timetable.

Himalaya Airlines is looking to add 15 A320 aircraft to its current fleet that will connect Nepal to points in Asia.

Through the Sabre Travel Marketplace, the airline will gain a sales connection to more than 425,000 travel agents globally to give them access to the best fare deals.

“Nepal is a tourism hotspot… 2015 to 2016, tourism grew almost 40%, a trend that is likely to continue as the country enhances its infrastructure. Beyond that, connectivity options are improving, especially with the likes of Himalaya Airlines adding key destinations across the region,” said, Sabre Travel Network Asia Pacific vice president supplier commerce, Rakesh Narayanan.

Effective this August, Himalaya Airlines’ fares and ancillary offerings will be available to Sabre travel agents globally, allowing them to choose the most cost-efficient routes and packages for their customers.

Himalaya Airlines, based at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, represents the second attempt of Yeti Airlines Group to launch an international airline based in Nepal, following the collapse of Fly Yeti in 2008.

Himalaya Airlines was founded in 2014 as a joint venture between Yeti Airlines Group, the Himalaya Infrastructure Fund and Tibet Airlines.

It launched operations in May 2016 with a single Airbus A320. In March this year it identified five destinations, but its latest information on its homepage shows just two destinations Colombo and Doha.

The airline’s first flight took off 31 May 2016 from Kathmandu to Doha. Flights from Kathmandu to Colombo started in October 2016.
